Objectives

The EnergyEfficiency4SMEs project focuses on enhancing the skills of energy technicians and top management within companies in the HORECA (Hotels, Restaurants, and Catering) sector to recognize the multiple benefits of collaborative approaches between large and small companies across the value chain. SMEs operate in some of the most energy-intensive sectors. While energy audits have effectively addressed energy efficiency in larger companies, SMEs often need more guidance to implement the recommendations from these audits successfully. Its primary focus is on supporting the Clean Energy Transition within this sector.

The project will train 520 staff to enhance their skills, knowledge, and awareness of the role of sustainable value chains in promoting the clean energy transition. Additionally, over 1,500 stakeholders will be exposed to information on collaborative methods within the HORECA supply chain, including mapping, business models, and project results. The project will involve 420 companies in exploring energy collaborations, and a further 10,000 stakeholders will be reached and informed about the initiative and its tools.

Activities

Over the course of three years, the project aims to enhance energy efficiency capacity within SMEs through a range of initiatives, including webinars, self-assessment tools, and guidance on accessing finance. The project will focus on the HORECA value chain (hotels, restaurants, catering).

A scoping study will be conducted to identify effective energy efficiency measures tailored to each targeted sector. These insights will guide the selection of companies for audits and support their capacity-building efforts. Additionally, a self-assessment option will be available to companies via the energy efficiency knowledge platform.

Beyond technical assistance, the project will also help companies identify suitable funding opportunities in each country. The platform’s financial section will feature a tool that matches businesses with customized funding options aligned with their energy efficiency projects.
